INTERFAITH SPEAKERS

About Our Speakers:
All speakers in the Interfaith Speakers Bureau (IFSB) program are certified after a rigorous process of professional development, testing and observation. They are volunteers and active practitioners of the faith they represent as IFSB speakers. When presenting in K-12 schools, ING speakers adhere to the First Amendment Center guidelines which is documented in "A Teacher's Guide to Religion in the Public Schools."

Aisha Jill Morgan
Educational Consultant
Aisha received her B.A. in Humanities and has a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification. As a specialist in language proficiency, Aisha develops tests and trains teachers internationally. Aisha lives in Sonoma County and is Principal of the Islamic School at the Islamic Society of Santa Rosa.

A'isha Rafeeq
Holistic Medicine Practitioner
A'isha received a Ph.D. in Pschology and a M.S. in Public Health and Community Development. She has a private practice for holistic healing and lives in Berkeley with her children.

Amany Nasser
Electrical Engineer
Amany received her B.S. in Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering from Cairo University in Egypt. She previously served as President of the Arab Cultural and Community Center in San Francisco. Amany has been volunteering for ING since its beginning in 1993. She lives in the East Bay with her husband and four children.

Ameena Jandali
ING Content Development Director
Ameena received a M.A. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. in History from the University of Illinois. She lives with her husband and four children in Berkeley. Learn more about Ameena Jandali.

Dr. Aurea Lewis
Aurea represents the Christian religion.

Berget Jelane
Family Therapist
Berget has had a Buddhist meditation practice since 1986 in the Zen and Theravada traditions. She teaches in San Jose and Redwood City as well as other Buddhist centers, and is an active participant in several interfaith organizations. In her role as a Buddhist minister, she performs weddings, funerals and baby blessings for families.
Berget represents the Buddhist religion.

David Ponedel
Chef
David received a B.A. in Fine Arts, at the University of California, Berkeley, and an A.O.S in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America in New York. He has served on the Berkeley Area Interfaith Council and North American Interfaith Network. David is a founding board member of the Interfaith Center at the Presidio and an ambassador for the Parliament of the World's Religions.
David represents the Christian religion.

Dianne Muller
Graduate Student
Dianne Muller is completing her M.A. in Theology from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology [Graduate Theological Union] in Berkeley. She is studying world religions and hopes to continue her work in inter-religious dialogue after graduation. An active participant in local churches, Dianne is not only a practitioner but also an instructor, lector, and leader of community programs such as RENEW and formation of an ecumenical council. Dianne and her husband have three grown children and live and farm in the Napa Valley.

Eli Taub
Retired Pediatrician
After a long career at Kaiser Permanente as a pediatrician, Eli retired and is now an active member in many Jewish organizations. He served on the Santa Clara County's Human Relations Commission and has helped plan the County Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony. Eli attended the University of Michigan and received his M.D. at the University of Chicago. He and his wife have two grown children and one adorable granddaughter.

Harry Cornbleet
Physician
Harry is a staff physician at the San Jose State University Student Health Center. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Missouri. After his internship and residency, Harry served as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy, and then worked as in internist with a large medical group before moving to his present position. Harry enjoys hiking and nature study in his spare time. He lives with his wife in Saratoga.

Herman Rosenbaum
Retired Engineer
Herman studied Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science and received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is an active member of the Jewish community and Temple Beth Torah in Fremont. Herman was honored by ING with the Building Bridges Award for helping to organize an anti-hate forum focused on pressures in the Muslim and Sikh communities after 9/11. Herman is married with three grown children and two grandchildren.

Jean Ramacciotti
Director
Jean received a B.S. in Theology and Philosophy at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology [Graduate Theological Union] in Berkeley. She serves on the pastoral staff at St.Thomas Aquinas Catholic parish in Palo Alto as Director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Jean produces and hosts a community cable TV talk show about spirituality at The Media Center. She lives in Palo Alto where she has served on many non-profit boards and has four children.

John Giuntoli
Educator and Graduate Student
John is pursuing a second career in teaching after retiring. He is working towards a M.A. in Theology at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology [Graduate Theological Union] in Berkeley. John received a B.S. in Business from California State University, Hayward, and a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from San Francisco State University. Additionally, he graduated from the Oakland Diocese’s School of Pastoral Ministry and Serra Catechetical Institute. John lives in Pinole and enjoys gardening and woodworking. He attends services at the St. Rose of Lima church where he teaches a youth conformation class and helps out in the music program.
John represents the Christian religion.

Judith Fleenor
Religious Science Practitioner
Judith Fleenor worked in hospitality and technology management training after graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. After a corporate career, she studied at Holmes Institute and received her M.A. in Consciousness Studies. Judith is now a Religious Science Practitioner with the United Centers for Spiritual Living. Her ministry focuses on bringing people of various faiths together to understand each other and meet the divine in useful ways to empower lives.
Judith is a facilitator for the IFSB program.

Karen Stiller
Karen represents the Jewish religion.

Ken Maki
Chief Executive Officer
After a long career in the IT industry. Ken is CEO of his own company. In addition to writing several PC computing books, he taught at a junior college in Washington. Ken received his M.S. in Information Systems from the University of San Francisco and a B.A. in Philosophy from Portland State University. He is married and lives with his wife and two stepsons in San Francisco. Ken enjoys photography, reading and martial arts.

Khushroo Shaikh
Retired Management Consultant
Khushroo received a B.A. from Brandeis University, an M.S. from Rutgers State University and an Ed.D. from Teachers College of Columbia University. She last worked for Hewlett-Packard as a management consultant. After retiring, Khushroo began volunteering as a speaker at ING.

Maha ElGenaidi
Chief Executive Officer
Maha received her B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She is the CEO, President and Founder of ING. Maha lives in Santa Clara with her husband. Learn more about Maha ElGenaidi.

Margaret Jones
Retired Educator
Margaret has been active at various Methodist church congregations and interfaith programs for over 50 years. She retired after working for many years with children in Texas and California schools. Margaret received a B.A. in Sociology focused on world religions from the University of California, Irvine. She is proud of her five children, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Marianne Farina
Assistant Professor
Sister Marianne is an assistant professor at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology [Graduate Theological Union] in Berkeley, CA. She received an M.A. in Pastoral Theology from Santa Clara University and a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics from Boston College. With more than 20 years of experience in education and pastoral ministry, Sister Marianne has worked in education and social development projects that promote social justice and interfaith dialogue.

Matthew Mengerink
Matthew represents the Islamic religion.

Michael Bennett
Retired Public Administrator and Retired Psychotherapist
Michael received a B.A. from Stanford University, an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School, an M.P.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. After retiring from several state and national organizations focused on social justice, Michael is active in his Buddhist community as a member of its Chaplaincy Council and the facilitator of support groups for persons with life-threatening illnesses and chronic health challenges in addition to volunteering at the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco. Michael lives in Atherton with his wife Gabriele and enjoys daily hikes in the forests of Woodside.

Neil represents the Jewish religion.

Richard (Dick) Heiman
Retired Executive
After retiring as president of a major manufacturing firm, Dick moved with his wife from Cincinnati to San Mateo. Since then, he has been involved with many interfaith activities, which includes serving as a board member on the interfaith committees of several Bay Area community organizations. Dick's goal is to promote world peace by helping people of all faiths understand, appreciate and accept each other.

Satya Sharma
Satya represents the Hindu religion.

Stephen (Steve) Brown
Hospital Chaplain
After 25 years as a pastor at the Churches of the Nazarene, Steve works as a hospital chaplain in Stockton. He received a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego and an M.Div. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Steve is active with the United Religions Initiative and serves as a board member for the Northern California Ecumenical Officer’s Committee. Steve lives in San Bruno with his wife.

Terry Fletcher
K-12 Teacher
Terry has worked as a Spanish bilingual and literacy support teacher in San Francisco and Berkeley public schools for over 20 years. She is a member of Congregation Sha’ar Zahav in San Francisco. A Middle East peace activist and daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Terry enjoys learning new languages, singing, bicycling and yoga. She lives with her husband in Berkeley.

Theodore Timpson
President
As a former elementary school teacher and director of children theater productions, Theodore uses interfaith experience with students to develop identity and religious understanding. He founded Young Spirit Foundation which sponsors events for young people and teachers, aiming to establish an interfaith school in the Bay Area. Theodore received a B.A. from Harvard University and an M.S. in Education from Bank Street College in New York. He lives with his family in Palo Alto and practices yoga meditation.
Theodore is a facilitator for the IFSB program.

Ursula Velonis
Professor and Psychotherapist
Ursula received her B.S. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and her Ph.D. in Curriculum Theory and Instruction from Simon Fraser University in Canada. In addition to teaching at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. she is a psychotherapist in private practice and has a certificate in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy. Ursula has served on the Board of Directors of the International Transpersonal Association of Psychology and has presented at several conferences. She is a founding member of the Center for Peace through Culture and a member of the research faculty at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto.
Ursula is a facilitator for the IFSB program.

Venerable Jian Hu Shifu
Abbot
Venerable Jian Hu came to the U.S. from Taiwan as a teenager. He graduated from the California Institute of Technology and received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego. In 2004, Venerable Jian Hu helped establish the Zen Center of Sunnyvale where he now serves as the Abbot. Venerable Jian Hu is a spiritual leader, teaching many classes in the Bay Area. He also frequently gives lectures and conducts retreats within and outside of the U.S.

Venerable Jian Sheng Shifu
Abbess
Venerable Jian Sheng is currently the Abbess of Buddha Gate Monastery in Lafayette. Her experience includes serving as Vice Abbess and Head of the Reception Department of Chung Tai Chan Monastery, as well as Abbess of Pu-De Zen Center in Taipei, Taiwan. Venerable Jian Sheng is also a lecturer and instructor on meditation and Buddhism at many universities, government, and private organizations.
