This is followed by an overview of Muslim demographics, traditions, and practices and of pertinent contemporary issues and their implications for law enforcement work. The seminar addresses protocols for interaction with both individuals and community institutions and provides law enforcement leaders an opportunity to share their policies and experiences interacting with Muslim members of the community. The seminar ends with a discussion of opportunities for cooperation. Objectives of this seminar include: Cultural awareness and development of cultural competency skills for working with American Muslims and their institutions Increased rapport, greater trust, and improved communication between law enforcement agencies and Muslim institutions Improved law enforcement and public relations skills for police departments Enhanced security and public safety for the community and officers Prevention of hate crimes and harassment through increased reporting Compliance with Senate Bill 1102 and other mandates requiring law enforcement officer training The seminar is designed for police chiefs, captains, lieutenants, and sergeants; senior detectives, investigators, and staff; sheriffs and deputy sheriffs; and other law enforcement administrators and leaders.
