Date(s) - Tuesday, April 20th, 2021
3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

The purpose of this diversity seminar is to provide educators and school staff with a picture of the challenges faced by Muslim students in the current environment as well as solutions for addressing these challenges. It begins with a description of the impact of anti-Muslim bigotry on American Muslims generally and Muslim students specifically, including harassment, bullying and identity issues. The seminar then provides solutions for these problems, beginning with school policies to prevent harassment and bullying. The second remedy is a better understanding of Muslims and their faith, including the religious practices of Muslim students. The seminar concludes with guidelines for teaching about religion at school and shares educational resources for the study of Muslim history and culture.

This seminar will be delivered to educators and staff at Elk Grove Unified School District by ING Bay Area Director Ishaq Pathan and Content Contributor Ameena Jandali.
