Dr. Jonathan D. Gomez, Speaker

Dr. Jonathan D. Gomez serves as the Faculty in Residence for Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives in the Office of the Provost and is an Associate Professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies at San José State University. He holds a Doctorate in Sociology with an emphasis in Black Studies and Chicana/o Studies. Dr. Gomez is also the founder and facilitator of the Culture Counts Reading Series, a transformative pedagogy initiative that empowers participants to use poetry and storytelling as tools for advocating their right to a just and meaningful future. His research and teaching focus on race, ethnicity, space, and the intersections of Chicanx cultural expression, liberatory education, and social movements.
