Action-Alert: Anti-Muslim Film Obsession Mailed to California Residents

ING Action Alert, 10/09/08

This week, DVD copies of the anti-Muslim film Obsession were mailed to select California residents, presumably registered Republicans. “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” is a 2005 anti-Muslim propaganda film. Last month, 28 million copies of the DVD were distributed in electoral swing states by a little known entity, the Clarion Fund either by mail or enclosed in newspapers.

We urge you NOT to over-react which draws greater attention to the film, but merely to respond as follows:

  • ING encourages our interfaith partners to voice their concern over this unprecedented campaign of hate by signing on to an MPAC-Interfaith Alliance letter, which can be accessed at: Interfaith Response to Obsession
  • We also request that if you encounter groups, schools or libraries screening the film that you contact ING as soon as possible so that we can provide speakers or an interfaith panel to comment on the film, as we have done in the past, or to suggest alternate films that can provide a balancing view. Contact ING at 408-296-7312 and ask for Maha Elgenaidi or write to ING Program Director, Grace Fong at [email protected]

At ING, we believe the best response to misinformation and hate is through education and interfaith community engagement and dialogue.
