Educator Seminar: Countering Islamophobia and Other Bigotries and their Impact on Marginalized Communities Cultural Diversity Seminar for Educators on Countering Islamophobia and Other Bigotries and their Impact on Marginalized Communities The purpose of this seminar is to provide educators and school staff with a picture of the challenges faced by Muslim and other marginalized students in the current environment as well as solutions for addressing these challenges. It begins with a look at rising hate crimes against marginalized communities and some of the historical factors that have created these bigotries, including colonialism, racialization, xenophobia, and internalization. It addresses the issue of bullying and provides tools to prevent or reduce bullying in the school and classroom. It also looks at ways to accommodate religious practices of Muslim and other minority students and concludes with educator guidelines and resources for teaching about religious and other communities.
