In response to increasing hate crimes in California, Islamic Networks Group (ING) joined the San Francisco Bay Area Leadership Council and U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Californiat; Ismail Ramsey, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, Marin County District Attorney Lori Frugoli, and former San Francisco Human Rights Commission Commissioner Hala Hijazi in launching three public service announcements on countering Islamophobia, antisemitism, and anti-Asian hate during a press conference at the Interfaith Center at the Presidio in San Francisco on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023. The event was also attended and supported by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) Bay Area and San Francisco Chinatown Community Development Center. You can watch a recording of the press conference here.

You can view the PSAs on Islamophobia, antisemitism, and anti-Asian hate on the San Francisco Bay Area Interfaith Leadership website here, which contains additional links with resources to learn more about our communities and help build a more inclusive Bay Area for all people. In the Islamophobia PSA, ING Deputy Director Dr. Zachary Markwith and his team focused on the diversity of Muslim Americans, challenging a major trope that Muslims are monolithic.
According to the 2022 Hate Crime in California report, the rate of hate crimes against all groups rose by more than 20% over the previous year, while many still go unreported. Muslim, Jewish, and Asian Americans, and other religious and ethnic minorities continue to be more frequent targets of hate crimes and incidents, discrimination, harassment, and bullying. To raise awareness about these challenges our communities are facing, we encourage you to view and share the PSAs with your network.
