Muslim Women Beyond the Stereotypes

The role of Muslim women and Islam’s view of women are among the most widely misunderstood and misrepresented aspects of the religion and its adherents.

The speaker will open with an overview of the status of Muslim women today throughout the world in areas such as education, work, government, and movements for reform, and goes on to highlight the contributions of notable Muslim women both historically and today in politics, academia, sports, and other fields. If time permits, the speaker will also present Quranic and prophetic teachings about the roles and responsibilities of Muslim women while examining the questions of hijab and gender relations, addressing some of the major misconceptions about Muslim women, and concluding with an overview of Muslim organizations working for women’s rights.

Throughout the presentation the speaker will entertain questions and have a discussion with the audience.
