The Islamic Networks Group denounces in form and substance the recent anti-Semitic remarks made by an imam at the Islamic Center of Jersey City. He referred to Jews as “apes and pigs” and called for violence against them. This kind of inflammatory preaching has no place in our houses of worship and absolutely no place in the United States. In New Jersey and across the country, millions of Muslims and Jews live and work side-by-side in peace as fellow citizens because we know that our freedom of religion is protected by the U.S. Constitution.
We will not let this type of hateful speech color the entire American Muslim community, and when it targets our Jewish friends and neighbors, we demand appropriate action be taken by the mosque board. We also encourage an increase in interfaith dialogue and events to build stronger connections between our communities.
