The following is a statement from Maha Elgenaidi, Executive Director of Islamic Networks Group (ING), on today’s Supreme Court decision upholding the Trump administration’s travel ban:
“The Supreme Court’s decision sets a dangerous precedent by declaring a government policy targeting adherents of a specific religion — a policy that religiously and racially profiles Muslims — legal and constitutional. In their decision, the court has chosen to accept the government’s claim that the ban was religiously neutral, even though the policy matches a consistent series of statements by the president demonizing Muslims and declaring them aliens in their own country.
However, in the face of this truly devastating decision, ING and our affiliates will not be deterred. We are doubling down on our mission to eliminate religious bigotry at its roots by changing the underlying beliefs and attitudes that enable it through education and interreligious engagement. The American people have beaten back bigotry before and will do so again, and we will continue our work until we achieve an America that lives up to our founding ideals and welcomes people of all religions and cultures.”
