ING’s Minnesota Affiliate Receives Advocates for Human Rights (AHR) 2011 Special Recognition Award

05/25/11 – ING’s Affiliate bureau in Minneapolis, MN, the Islamic Resource Group received the Advocates for Human Rights (AHR) 2011 Special Recognition Award last week. The award was presented at AHR’s Award Dinner on May 19, 2011, where they also presented the 2011 Don and Arvonne Fraser Human Rights Award to Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. Shirin Ebadi. At the event, IRG showed a 5 minute video titled The Muslim Experience in Minnesota that they produced with the support of the Minnesota Historical Society.

Commenting on IRG’s work, the AHR said that they, “greatly admire the Islamic Resource Group and its work to educate our community about Islam and to promote human rights by building bridges across cultures to benefit all Minnesotans.”

The annual Human Rights Awards Dinner, which is attended by over 800 lawyers and human rights activists, is the largest international human rights event in the Midwest.  The Advocates for Human Rights is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights and civil society and reinforcing the rule of law.

TCM Month-Long Event to Examine Arab Portrayals in Cinema

Turner Classic Movies in July will air a month-long movie event that focuses on the diverse portrayals of Arabs in cinema.

Each Tuesday and Thursday evening in July, TCM’s Race & Hollywood: Arab Images on Film will explore the depiction of Arabs in the cinema.
