Working With Muslim Patients

This handout about working with Muslim patients was developed as a supplement to our diversity training seminars for healthcare providers. The handout is a useful reference that addresses cultural competency issues which may impact healthcare providers and others during their interactions with Muslim Americans. These include Islamic perspectives on healthcare and illness, language considerations, family dynamics, modesty, dietary restrictions, and ritual practices such as prayer and fasting.
