ING Speakers Presented to Hundreds Last Week
Huge Spike in Upcoming Presentation Requests
Against a backdrop of tragic events in our country and our world, and prominent voices calling for division and intolerance, ING’s work grows ever more relevant and in-demand. We have seen a huge increase in requests for presentations in schools, workplaces, and congregations – without even advertising them. People are hungry for knowledge about Islam and the opportunity to meet American Muslims.
Last week was a busy one, with presentations scheduled long before the San Bernardino attacks. ING speakers Nora Talebi, Ruxana Meer, and others presented about Getting to Know American Muslims and their Faith to four classes at two East Bay high schools. Asma Ghori delivered a presentation about Muslim Women Beyond the Stereotypes at a San Jose high school, and ING conducted an interfaith panel about Shared Values Among Faiths with representatives from four of the five major faiths at an East Bay charter school. ING speaker Aisha Morgan spoke for a private group in Morgan Hill, and Ameena Jandali delivered a presentation on the History of Muslims in America at St. Mary’s College.
Help us continue to provide education about Islam and Muslims and build our interfaith engagement through your support.

New Jersey Affiliate Hosts Islamic Speakers
Bureau Training and INGYouth Workshops
ING staff traveled to New Jersey last weekend to conduct a series of events for the local community organized by ING’s New Jersey Affiliate. On Saturday they held an INGYouth Workshop for dozens of youth and parents where they highlighted the challenges of Islamophobia and bullying as well as ways to combat these problems for parents, while training the youth on how to answer difficult questions and present about Islam and Muslims in schools. During afternoon presentations, the confidence and eagerness of the youth, some of whom were not yet ten years old, was impressive to both the parents and ING trainers.
That evening ING’s New Jersey affiliate director Seham Abdala hosted a welcome banquet for ING’s CEO Maha Elgenaidi and Content Director Ameena Jandali. Following dinner, a lively conversation took place between audience members and ING staff about countering Islamophobia. The evening concluded with a keynote by Ameena Jandali on the topic “Overcoming the Challenges Faced by American Muslim Youth.”
The next day ING staff conducted an Islamic Speakers Bureau Training for volunteers interested in becoming speakers for the local New Jersey Bureau.
Upcoming Islamic Speakers Bureau Training:
Saturday, December 12th at the ING Office
The Islamic Speakers Bureau is one of ING’s core programs. We want to be able to fulfill the growing number of requests coming into our office – and so we need more speakers to join our bureau. On December 12th from 9:30 AM until 2:30 PM we are offering training for those interested in learning more about what it takes to join the Islamic Speakers Bureau and become a certified speaker. Please join us for an engaging and highly informative training, and RSVP here. Following training, speakers receive ongoing support and mentoring to develop both their Islamic literacy and their presentation skills.
ING Joins Muslim Groups Raising Over $100,000 in
Four Days for Families of San Bernardino Victims
In the wake of the tragedy in San Bernardino, American Muslims and organizations including ING have come together to give back in an inspiring way. Housed on the crowdfunding platform LaunchGood, Muslim individuals have raised over $100,000 in only four days for families of the San Bernardino victims, after the initial goal of raising $50,000 to assist with the immediate needs of the victims’ families was quickly surpassed. In the words of the organizers: “We wish to respond to evil with good, as our faith instructs us, and send a powerful message of compassion through action. Our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: “Have mercy to those on earth, and the One in the Heavens (God) will have mercy upon you.”
