Celebrating a Historic Inauguration and Martin Luther King’s Legacy

Monday, January 19, 2009 Joining Silicon Valley Interfaith leaders, ING President, Maha Elgenaidi will co-present a Litany of Hope and Dedication at an Interfaith citizens celebration and dedication on the momentous occasion of the inauguration of President Barack Hussein Obama. The event will also commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who taught non violence and social justice, leading people of all ages and backgrounds to come together to improve lives and fulfill the American Dream. “Many of us feel called to work toward Dr. King’s dream. Let us all live a little of his dream in our lives by trying to live his legacy of promoting change for the greater good in whatever way we can. While many of the civil rights issues he fought long and hard for have been achieved, there are still many challenges before us, and the first hurdle is overcoming our own inner prejudices towards those who are different than ourselves. The dream he had of an America for all people, regardless of race or religion is a dream that all of us should work towards,” commented Maha Elgenaidi. Read More

Silcon Valley Interfaith Leaders Endorse Declaration for Peace on M.E. Crisis

Even on the toughest issues, Silicon Valley interfaith & mainstream religious leaders find common ground! AN INTERFAITH DECLARATION FOR PEACE We members and leaders of the Silicon Valley interfaith community are anguished by the events that have unfolded in Israel and Gaza. While some of us—guided by faith and conscience—may in other venues express stronger statements of sympathy either for Israel or Gaza, we share a commitment to engage with one another, even, and especially, during times of great stress. We also affirm our common humanity and our common belief that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must cease, that there is no violent solution to that conflict, that all human life is valued, and that all parties must cooperate to achieve a just and lasting peace on behalf of God’s children who reside in the land we call holy. ING Statement on Alleged Terrorist Plot in NYC

For immediate release (May 21, 2009) Islamic Networks Group (ING) congratulates local and national law enforcement agencies for their success in thwarting the alleged plot to bomb two Jewish institutions and shoot missiles at military planes. Harming places of worship of any religious group is strictly prohibited in Islam, and the Qur’an specifically mentions the duty to safeguard all houses of worship including synagogues (Qur’an, 22:40). ING points out that no political grievances can legitimize actions that are condemned by Islam; those that claim Islamic teachings to justify their immoral violent actions are committing a dual crime of attempting to harm others and acting in the name of a religion that they are misrepresenting.
