ING Increase Efforts to Combat Islamophobia; 3/8/11

03/18/11 – In light of the controversy swirling around the King hearings on radicalization in the American Muslim community and escalating Islamophobia in the United States, ING emphasizes the need for increased outreach and education about Muslims and their faith, as well as interfaith dialogue and understanding. To this end, ING is increasing efforts to duplicate its programs across the country through Islamic Speakers Bureaus affiliated with ING. Last week ING initiated a new bureau in Dallas, Texas, and is coordinating trainings for bureaus in multiple states. ING affiliated speakers bureaus use ING’s methodology of training and certification, including upholding First Amendment guidelines, as well as its materials. Read More

ING Trains Police Officers in Milpitas

ING conducted trainings for the entire Milpitas Police Department over a period of two months in seven different training sessions with an average of twelve participants in each. The two hour presentation on the topic of Law enforcement and the Muslim Community covers the basics of Islam and the role it may play in the lives of Muslim Americans and how religious practice might impact interaction with law enforcement. In the context of cultural competency education, defined as “awareness, knowledge and practical skills applied when interacting with diverse cultures and faith based communities,” ING trainings for law enforcement are divided into two parts: the first dealing with stereotypes and their impact; and, the second dealing with suggested protocols for police officers to follow when interacting with the Muslim community, both individually, and when visiting a mosque. Especially in light of the recent murder of a Muslim woman in Fremont, it is increasingly important for law enforcement to have a better understanding and relationship with the Muslim community, and visa versa. To arrange for your local police department to educate the community on law enforcement protocols, please contact the ING office. Read More

Listening to Those We Serve

The entire experience of planning a series of seminars with ING was inspirational. They did an amazing job. The ING team welcomed input along the way which allowed each session to be even better than the one before it. We will continue to work with ING as I am confident that they will continue to provide value in our work.

City Human Resources Director

I thought the ING seminar, “Preventing and Responding to Anti-Muslim Bigotry,” was an extremely valuable training for law enforcement, especially in today’s day and age with all the misunderstandings and misperceptions of the Muslim community…I feel this training will help my staff and I in developing better relationships and in responding to the needs of our community. I highly recommend this training to others.
