The Other Tragedy of COVID-19 – Scapegoating Asian-Americans! Join us for a webinar on Systemic Racism and Inequalities Revealed by COVID-19
This webinar is the second of a series on Solidarity in a Time of Crisis: Standing with Marginalized Communities, sponsored by ING in partnership with Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA) and the San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP.
When examining discrimination and inequalities in our society, including a spike in anti-Asian hate incidents, and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color, especially African Americans, we often wonder: How did we get here? Do the stories we see reflect only a recent surge in fear of “the other” and in societal inequalities, or are they rooted in something that goes much deeper in our history? Join ING, CAA, and the NAACP for our second panel in a two-part series in which diverse community leaders will break down the common roots and interconnections of the various forms and targets of bigotry and systemic racism in US history and will present calls to action to counter it.

Interfaith Iftars with the ING Team

Join us for live virtual interfaith iftars this Ramadan
For the first time in three decades, Passover, Easter and Ramadan all fall around the same time. Yet this year, Christians, Jews, and Muslims are having to adapt their holiday rituals because of the coronavirus pandemic. Join us for a virtual fast-breaking (iftar) with representatives from the three Abrahamic faiths discussing their holiday observances and how they are being adjusted this year. Following the panel, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their own holiday practices and how they have been impacted by the pandemic. The virtual event will conclude with interfaith prayers and the breaking of the fast following the Muslim call to prayer. Participants can then finish the evening separately with their own formal prayers and family meals.
Register for ONLY one of the interfaith iftars below:
- April 30th: Muslim-Jewish East Bay Virtual Iftar: Building Community in a Time of Holiness: How Muslims and Jews Adapt Their Rituals
- May 7th: Interfaith Virtual Iftar: Turning Houses into Sacred Spaces: Utilizing Rituals to Ground Us During COVID-19

ING resources for Muslim teens this Ramadan
As Muslim teens struggle with online education during this quarantine, Ramadan may offer new opportunities for sharing with classmates. ING offers resources for Muslim youth to share about a number of topics related to Islam and Muslims, including about Ramadan, as well as answers to common questions they may encounter in the classroom or from classmates. If your teen is interested in presenting online, we offer these easy to use resources here.
ING is open for business during the Shelter in Place!
Since the beginning of the Shelter in Place order we have adjusted our programs to deliver all our presentation and panels online. For schools or other organizations looking to supplement their online teaching at this time, we offer a variety of live presentations and panels here.
Spirituality in a Time of Crisis three-part interfaith panel series is available online
As a response to the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic and lock-down, we convened a three-part series titled Spirituality in a Time of Crisis last month. This interfaith series features female religious leaders discussing how we can best respond to our new reality from a spiritual perspective. You can view the entire series here.
