05/02/11 – ING responds to Osama Bin Laden’s death with a sense of hope that a dark chapter in the history of the world may now come to a close. For too long Bin Laden’s actions and rhetoric have created a threat to the lives and security of all people of the world, in violation of Islamic teachings that clearly condemn terrorism and unequivocally forbid the targeting of civilians and indiscriminate violence. Celebrating Earth Month; 4/14/11

04/14/11 – While Earth Day this year falls on April 22nd, communities across the nation and the world are convening activities throughout the month. This annual commemoration is a timely reminder of the growing importance of taking care of this earth, our home. With growing evidence of climate change and its impact and the continuing threat of recent oil spills, nuclear melt-downs and other smaller environmental disasters, all citizens of this earth must rededicate ourselves to this important issue and do what we can to play our part. At ING we adopted eco-friendly policies in 2007 that we strive to implement not only in the office but in our homes. As a reminder to ourselves and to our volunteers and supporters we encourage taking the necessary steps to live a life that is more environmental and conscious of the responsibility we all bear. This letter follows nearly two years of ING efforts and engagement with the Department of Education, including hosting a meeting between the Dept of Education & White House representatives and Muslim, Arab and Sikh parents and children at the ING office last year; release of federal guidelines by the Department of Education that are specific to religion-based harassment in schools, the publicizing of the new DoE website, Bullyinginfo.org and participating in the recent White House conference on bullying in March which ING attended. King’s Hearing Illustrates Importance of Education and Outreach; 3/11/11

03/11/11 – Congressman King’s hearings on radicalization in the American Muslim community, which commenced yesterday have been the subject of much discussion and anxiety for the past month as those both for and against the hearings debate their focus and purpose. Many view this as merely another page in the playbook of the persistent demonization of American Muslims that has peaked in the past few months. Despite the focus on radicalization, on the first day of a series of planned hearings, one of the themes voiced by many of the congress people and officials testifying was an acknowledgement of American Muslims’ contributions to the United States and their place as an integral part of our community as our neighbors, teachers, members of the armed services, and educated professionals.
